Currently serving as the Managing Director and chief executive officer of ICICI Bank, Chanda Kochhar is now among the biggest business tycoons in India. She is widely known for the roles in strengthening the base of the bank and shaping the retail business market in India. Here are some facts about Chanda Kochhar

1. Born in Jodhpur, Chanda Kochhar was raised in Jaipur, Rajasthan. She then shifted to Mumbai where she joined Hindu College and pursued Bachelor of arts degree.




2. She acquired a master’s degree in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. She received the Wockhardt Gold Medal for Excellence in Management Studies as well as the J. N. Bose Gold Medal in Cost Accountancy for highest marks in the same year.


3. Chanda Kochhar was the only woman to introduce the concept of consumer credit market which was absolutely new not only to her but to the whole banking sector.


4. Under Kochhar’s leadership, ICICI Bank won the “Best Retail Bank in India” award in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and “Excellence in Retail Banking Award” in 2002 and  both the awards were given by tThe Asian Banker.


5. In 2010, Kochhar received the Padma Bhushan Award, the third highest civilian honor awarded by the Government of India, for her services to the banking sectors.


6. Back to 1988, Chanda Kochhar started her career by joining the industrial credit and investment corporation of India as a management credit.

7. Today being the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of ICICI, she is also the director of ICICI international Ltd and ICICI Prudential life insurance.


8. Chanda Kochhar is blessed with a son Arjun and a daughter named Anjali. Anjali has completed her engineering and Arjun is completing his studies.

9. Kochhar’s mother was a huge inspiration to her throughout her life. Her family was a Sindhi family, who lost their land and wealth during the partition of 1947. However, after her father’s death, Kochhar’s mother worked as a designer in a boutique to support her three children.
